This building is a historic building that sits in the middle of downtown San Luis Obispo. We were actually approached by the property management company to furnish this beautiful 3 story space for Cal Poly Alumni Outreach and Gift Planning. The wood burning fire places, old wood burning rod iron ovens, and urban decay walls posed as just a few of the obstacles during the planning spaces. Now that staff that commute to this beautiful downtown space could not be more delighted.
Two departments were merging into an existing space which would require an additional 12 seats in an already seemingly full suite. Many small group discussions were had with each department to prioritize their needs within the new footprint.
Maintaining a functional and efficient space was critical. Ergonomics, budget, future flexibility, lighting, power and noise were all considered. As a high traffic space, we worked closely with the all trades to ensure a seamless execution and zero downtime for the user groups.
Sierra Vista is the new learning commons for Glendale Community College. With its three huge sprawling floors, this was new construction for this community college and is the largest building on campus.
The first floor with a Starbucks, lounge settings, study areas acts more like a modern day college library and hub for the building. The second floor is where the classrooms are located as well as faculty offices and the third floor is where the services could be found such as Financial Aid, Career Center, and Admissions. Having all these services under the same roof has been so efficient for this school and this building has become the landmark for this campus setting.
Casa Pacifica recently acquired a new office in Goleta, CA. As a non-profit, they relay widely on donations and sponsors. bkm worked with Casa Pacifica to create a functional design for their space while being consistent with their other locations, however funds and time was limited – Casa Pacifica needed to move in within 3 weeks!
In effort to save on cost and shorten the timeline, bkm partnered with a past client who wanted to dispose of their furniture that they purchased months before the pandemic. The furniture they purchased sat unused in their space for years due to the business relocated to a smaller space. The furniture was in perfect condition, and suited Casa Pacifica’s style, size, and function. It was a match made in heaven! bkm coordinated all of the placement and reconfiguration of the repurposed furniture to match the original design we made for Casa Pacifica, which included cubicles, private office furniture, and storage.
Not only was Casa Pacifica able to get their dream office, they were able to do so on a tight schedule and under budget. The past client was relieved to let go of his furniture knowing it was going to a good cause, and with some money in his pocket.
